What If Scenarios

A workbank shows the current plan in place, and the results of the interventions taking place.

Users may wish to see what would happen if interventions, costs, technologies or work types were changed. This is the perfect use case for a What If scenario.

How To Setup A What If Scenario

note

Options can not be duplicated if there are outstanding rebuild reasons (i.e. out of date asset data). The option must be re-built before it can be duplicated.

From the workbank view, select Options from the breadcrumb menu.

Find the option to use as a basis for your scenario, then select the duplicate option.

The duplicate option modal will now be displayed.

After providing a name and description for your new option, click Next.

Any changes to interlocking areas, tracks, trains or locations can now be made.
Once changes have been made, click Next.

A confirmation box is displayed to show what options have been selected during setup.

To confirm the creation of the new workbank, click Save New Option

The new workbank can now edited without having any affect on the live workbank.

Importing Scenario To Workbank

Once a user is happy with the planning in their What If Scenario, they may choose to import those changes.

Select the main Workbank to import that data to, then click Import from Option on the Add drop down box

Enter the Option ID (or name) to import from, then click Next

Next, select the option area to be imported.

Unlike duplicating an option, an option area must be selected. This will overwrite any data for that area.

Once selected, click Next.

The final page displays any settings differences between the main Workbank and What If scenario (i.e. Data Sets).

Before running an import, it's recommended to run a Dry Run.

This verifies the import and sends an email with the difference between source and destination options. This can be done by toggling the Dry Run option before selecting Import Interventions In Area.

Once you've verified the import is correct, re-run the process without selecting Dry Run to import the data into the main Workbank.
